April 1, 2008 Mustache March is Over!

The male nurses up here grow mustaches for March Madness. When Teagan got his breathing tube in two weeks ago last Sunday, they use brown tape and it looks like he has a mustache. We told the guys that Teagan is participating in Mustache March. Last night the guys shaved their mustaches. This morning when I got here our male nurse asked if I noticed anything different about Teagan. His breathing tube was gone, he shaved his mustache too. I hope it is not an April fools joke and he gets it back in. He also started sucking his me-me this afternoon which is great because breathing tubes in babies make them forget how to suck and swallow. He looks great today, very pink and alert. Still no echo, maybe tom. Dr. Harris, our hero, stopped by today, he is very concerned for us, we really appreciate it. Big G was impressed that I could tell him stuff he didn't even understand. I never cared this much in biology, but now that it's my son I care a whole lot more. His chest tube is still slowing down, but we need it to stop completely so they can take it out and then I can finally hold him. We are learning patience up here, we are on Teagan Time, we are learning that he goes at his own pace. So we really appreciate days like these when thing are going sideways. I wish you all could sit by Teagan and feel his spirit, it radiates love, peace, hope, and a determination to get better. So keep up the prayers for a speedy recovery, they are working.

We are so glad to hear that Teagan is doing better. He is so lucky to have you two as parents and Mason as a big brother. I have been reading your blog, (with tears in my eyes every time) and I can tell he has such a strong spirit. Thank you for sharing the updates and your testimonies with us. I wish you all the best and a "speedy" recovery for Teagan! We love you and we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

It sure sounds like his making forward moves rather than sideways ones. Is there more going on? I'm so thankful that he is doing better. That's fantastic that he is able to suck on his pacifier. What progress he is making.

You do not know me, but I am part of a group that I believe you too are part of, intermountain healing hearts. My son Ryker was born with HLHS too and lived up at Primary's for his 7 weeks. What an amazing little guy you have! Gotta love the guys! Ryker had a nurse named Ben, that we called Ryker's buddy. I loved it when he would have Ben the nurse on because we felt like he was just hanging out with one of the guys. Anyways, hope too that the breathing tube stays far away from Teagan and that you can get him home soon!
Do you mind if I link your website on our family blog?
Let me know either way. My email is emilygourley@gmail.com

I just watched the little video you have of Teagan. Oddly enough, the blanket that he is on is one that my Ryker used too. It is hard to find boy blankets. I remember coming in one day and they had a purple floral one under him. The nurse was the one nurse up there that I did not care for, and we asked why he had an obviously girly blanket underneath. She said she could not find anything else. I told her that if she had checked his closet, that she would find some boy ones there. Oddly enough, it was at that moment that Ryker decided to made a mess of his blankets, making it so that we would have to change them. I think he was sharing in his disdain of being made to lay on such a girlie blanket!

You have no idea how happy I am to know that you got to hold your baby again. If I could do back flips I would do them right now, as many as I could until I got too dizzy to do any more. Congratulations. That is huge!!!

He looks like so GOOD! We are so happy that you are able to hold your baby boy again. A precious gift that so many of us take for granted. Teagan continues to teach us gratitude and appreciation for the small miracles in every day life that we so often take for granted! As always we are praying and sending our love to you guys.
