Day Four on the Floor

Not a very exciting day. Daddy spent the night and did most of the night time care, he even learned a few things. He learned to give meds, and check GT placement. I was able to get a pretty good nights sleep, thanks Ryan! We only had two pukes one while he got weighed (9lbs. 6oz.) and the other while I was down grabbing some dinner and Ryan was watching him. We had a discharge echo today, but I haven't heard the results, I hope no news is good news. It's not like in the PICU where they send someone to tell you right away, good or bad. I gave Teag's his bath and a Rowley rub down, after all he's been through he cries for a bath, but tip his head in a very awkward position for an echo and he will sleep right through it. He is off oxygen right now, so we will see how it goes. We had a car seat trial today, Teag's had to sit in the car seat for as long as our drive home will be and see if his stats drop, He passed. Hopefully it will be a nice easy night, since I'm alone. We didn't have much luck with the bottle today, but the therapist says we are doing good for an HLHS baby. She also told me Teagan looks the best out of her HLHS babies, they usually aren't so pink and alert. It is surprising how drained he gets from simple tasks like a bath, echo, eating, ect. Still looks like they are sending us home on Monday. Does anyone know where to buy a monitor, I just can't go home without one?!

Sounds like he's still doing great! That is so amazing.
Baby monitors, they sell them at Target or Walmart but your best selection is going to be a Babies R Us. Good luck

I am not sure if you know who I am but I was Cortney's (Teagan's aunt), cheer coach and she told me about this blog because I kept on asking about how he was doing. I am so glad to hear that he is doing better and I just wanted you guys to know that many people are praying for Teagan and your family, even people you may not have direct contact with.
Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Are you talking about an oxygen monitor? If you are, just have your doctor write a prescription for one (our pediatrician wrote ours) and then just call the home health company that will be bringing the rest of your medical equipment. I thought it was funny that when they discharged us that they told us to keep his sats between 75-85% but didn't get us a monitor. It was his home health nurse that recommended us getting one and like I said, our pediatrician ordered it. Your insurance should pay for it, but you might want to call just in case. Also, once you've rented it for so long, it becomes yours to keep. Hope this helps.

I was going to write what Allison said. If he is sent home with oxygen you will also get the sats monitor. Here you thought you would be free of the beeps :).
Good luck and I hope all goes well this weekend!

Brytt,

Whatever you need that won't be delivered to you when you get home make me a list and I will pick it up for you. We are happy to hear Teag is doing so well.

Each time we needed oxygen and monitors for "Z" we got them through Praxair. The picked up and delivered to our home each time. Good Luck with bringing him home. I hope all goes well!

Our monitor situation was a little different..The Doc's were worried that we would pay too much attention to what the machine was telling us and not watch for visual signs that Alex was in distress... Plus they didn't want us to go crazy listening to the beeping...Well then we had our home health nurse who comes out that day and then in a couple more days to check on the baby.. I think the first couple of weeks he came every three days and then there were the pediatrician appointments and cardiology and the intensivist... Everyone had a pulse Ox and could test him... Needless to say our home health nurse just couldn't get his to work properly.. He had an adult one that you attach to his fingers... That didn't go over well since he had c-diff and the pulse ox was one of the ways our nurse could tell something was terribly wrong, so he ordered one for us from home health... After a while we became the proud owners... Sooooooo to make a long-ish story longer... I have both... If you are in need and insurance won't get you one, you don't live too far away and I can drop it/them by sometime. It was really scary going home and not having those extra eyes and ears.. that is why your on the floor right now...To help you get to know that sweet little man... You guys will do a great job... But just to warn you, I thought I was crazy calling over the silliest things... until one dr said.. A heart parent is never over protective or crazy... They are just careful...so if you feel like you need to call DO IT!!! If you feel like you need to take him in DO IT.. Even if all they do is tell you he is great. At least you feel better.. Then when you catch on to how this all goes then you will be an old pro and they should just hand us all our nursing degrees...
